Climate Crisis in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East
September 26-17, Radisson, Larnaca, Cyprus
The Cyprus Institute in partnership with the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts, co-organised the 2024th edition of "Climate Crisis in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East."
The conference formed part of the wider EMME-CCI (Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East Climate Change Initiative - EMME-CCI) agenda, which was shaped following two previous major conferences also held by the Cyprus Institute, in 2018 and 2021 respectively.
As part of this endeavour, the Cyprus Institute is spearheading a collaborative effort to muster stronger and more productive collaboration between the countries of the East Mediterranean and the Middle East, spanning the range of interwoven causes and consequences of the unfolding crisis. The backbone of this effort is the EMME-CCI Task Force, which IKED has been a member of and contributed actively to since its inception.
For the conference, IKED coordinated with the Chairman of the Association Climate-KIC Governing Board, so to prepare a contribution and deliberation of relevance to the region, on ways to advance technological solutions to the issues at hand. The session devoted to this subject included, among others, a presentation by the Commissioner of the Environment for Cyprus, Ms. Antonia Thaodosinou. See just below a summary of IKED's contribution.
