Brief on the EMME-CCI Task Force

As a key element in this endeavour, the President of the Republic appointed the Cyprus Institute to define a “fact based” framework, which could support the adoption of a coherent regional framework of climate change mitigation and adaptation. As part of this endeavour, the EMME Task Forde was established.

The mandate of the  task force grants it strict independence from the government, and with sole responsibility for arranging with and serving as Secretariat for the Task Force, whose members are invited experts coming from academy, industry and NGOs around the  region, and  beyond.

The concrete mission of the Task Force is to scout and suggest economically viable approaches and solutions for countering the problems hampering climate mitigation and adaptation across the  East Mediterranean and the Middle East. An ambitious multi-stakeholder support scheme was devised for this purpose from the start.

IKED has been a member and taken active part in the force since early on. In this endeavour, with its partner organisations in the  Middle East, have provided substantive inputs and collaborated closely with  the  Cyprus Institute on advancing comparative analysis and identifying plausible cross-border initiatives, linked to innovation, entrepreneurship, energy transition, water management, and information and  communications technology.

When setting up the EU NBS task force panels at COP27 in Sharm  el-Sheikh, Egypt, IKED invited Dr. Fabio Montagnino  of the Cyprus Institute, to present the challenges and efforts  related to Climate Change across the region.
