Drawing on NBS Task Forces III and VI of EU Horizon Research and Innovation Projects
At UNFCCC COP27 in Sharm- El-Sheikh, Egypt, IKED assumed responsibility on behalf of the EU Commission to arrange two panels featuring presentations and discussions on themes at the core of the EU Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation projects agenda addressing Nature-based Solutions (NBS). The panels featured a combination of experts and specialists active in, or familiar with, specific projects in that agenda, as well as those taking part in capacity of actors or stakeholders bestowed with relevant other experience and insight how to progress the substantive issues. Both panels featured European as well as non-European speakers.
The first panel, addressing business models and finance of sustainability, was hosted and moderated by Thomas Andersson IKED/URBiNAT, with the support of the EU Commission and Task Force III. The second panel, addressing Co-Creation and Co-Governance, was co-hosted by Ingrid Andersson, IKED/URBiNAT, and Maria Carmen Garcia Mateo, MCG R&I/GO GREEN ROUTES, with the backing of Task Force Vi.
Both panels recognised the seriousness of the issues on the ground while assuming a constructive approach, highlighting practical lessons drawn from the past six years of extensive experimentation in the design and implementation of several NBS projects that have proven of high relevance to supporting local communities and development, along with climate change mitigation and adaptation
